The School Jubilee Service - 22nd November 2006

All Saints’ School began its Silver Jubilee celebrations on Wednesday 22nd November when the whole school, together with invited guests, and parents attended a special service in All Saints’ Church.

In his introduction, the Parish Priest, Father Michael Blackman, said that he thought it fitting that the preacher, the Reverend Canon John Hall, had begun his real career in education whilst at All Saints, and that now as Chief Education Officer of the Church of England one of his last duties before his installation as Dean of Westminster was to preach at the Silver Jubilee Service of the school whose building he had overseen.

The service itself was delightfully put together, combining congregational singing with contributions from the school choir, and prayers and readings led by some of the children.

In his address Canon Hall spoke first of memories, asking the children what some of their favourite memories were, and then linking these to his own of the opening of the new school buildings. Then, speaking of Church Schools, he said that there were now some 4,700 Church of England Schools, and that during his time as Chief Education Officer one of his great delights was that the campaign for some new Church of England Secondary Schools was now bearing fruit.  He concluded by saying that All Saints’ School clearly demonstrated what a Church of England School should be, providing quality education for a wide variety of children from different backgrounds and cultures within the context of Christian belief and practice.

The service ended with final prayers and a Blessing from Father Michael.

There then followed a reception in the school at which the guests, as well as enjoying some excellent food, had the chance to talk about the last twenty five years, to relive some memories of the school, and to view some of the exhibits that were part of a special display put on for the occasion.  Guests were then escorted round the school by some of the children to see the classes at work and to see the school as it is twenty five years on.

This marked the beginning of a number of celebrations planned for the next twelve months and one of the first of these was a children’s Jubilee Party on Friday 24th November 2006.
