The War Memorial
At a simple, yet very moving service, the re-furbished World War I Memorial was re-dedicated on Friday 10th November.
The service began in All Saints’ Church and was conducted by the Parish Priest, Father Michael Blackman.
There were also contributions from the school choir and from children representing all ages throughout the school.
An Act of Remembrance was led by the Head Teacher, Mrs. Roz Cordner, after which the last post was sounded by Ldg-Cdt David Holbrook and two minutes silence kept in memory of those who had lost their lives.
Following an ‘Act of Thanksgiving’ led by children from Yr 6, Father Michael gave the blessing and the congregation processed to the school where the Memorial was formally re-dedicated and blessed.
Many thanks are due to Mr. Jim Creasy for his support in researching the missing names, and providing additional material. Thanks also to Mrs. Pat Stewart for overseeing the whole process through, from agreeing to follow it up in a casual conversation, to completion. And thanks are also due to the English Heritage Fund and The National Lottery for grants which made the whole thing possible.
